East of Eden

Just finished this 600 page masterpiece. It saddens me that classics like this don't reach the hands and minds of us all.

An airport is like the world

I spent about eight hours over the course of two days in two airports. This allowed me time for literature, thought, and peace. A thought jumped into my head that I had to write down. The thought turned into a sort of poem although its original intent was not so.

An airport is like the world.

You have your bustling cities and your quiet rural countrysides

You have art and you have business

You have constant arrivals and constant departures

A passenger's time in its chaotic sphere varies

The world is like an airport.

Red Eye

I was going nuts on my way home from Colombia and had to do something to pass the time. I couldn't read because I was too tired and I couldn't sleep because I am me. This is one of three poems that I wrote on my trip. The setting is that airplane during a nightime "red eye" flight. Nothing special but thought I would share.

Red Eye

Shadowy darkness interrupted by sparse, random halos of light

Mouth ajar, chin up, eyelids drawn

Unconsciously searching a world beyond the clouds

Red light, green light, internal movements relieved in turn

Up, down, up, down the rhythmic tonations pulls one more chin up and one more mouth ajar

Unspoken "Bless you's" follow each forceful, ruidous experience

Monotony and fatigue claim desire's love of books and sound of mind

I have posted my most recent church talk that was given on January 24th, 2010. The topic is on how we can receive more consistent inspiration in our lives to give us more peace and happiness.
